Sinitta Renet Malone (born 19 October 1963), known mononymously as Sinitta, is a British-American singer and actress. She achieved commercial success in the mid-to-late 1980s with the singles "So Macho", "Toy Boy", "GTO", and "Cross My Broken Heart" and had several other hits during that decade. In the 2000s, she appeared on television programmes including Loose Women, The Xtra Factor, and This Morning, and she participated in the ITV show I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2011. Sinitta was born in Seattle, Washington, to Miquel Brown, a Canadian disco-soul singer and cast member of Hair, and her father, Anthony. She was raised in Seattle and later Detroit but frequently travelled with her mother on tour. When her mother directed the London production of Hair, Sinitta attended boarding school in East Sussex and a ballet school in Tunbridge Wells from the age of nine. She began performing in musicals in London, appearing in The Wiz at age 12. In 1981, Sinitta appeared in the film Shock Treatment as Frankie, credited as Sinitta Renet, and she continued her career in West End productions, including the original production of Cats and later Little Shop of Horrors. In 1983, she appeared in the video for Forrest's version of "Rock the Boat". In 1986, Sinitta released "So Macho", which peaked at number 2 on the UK Singles Chart and became a Top 20 hit in Sweden, Australia, and Austria. Her follow-up single "Feels Like the First Time" reached number 45. In 1987, after collaborating with producers Stock Aitken Waterman, she released "Toy Boy", which reached number 4 in the UK and achieved international chart success. "GTO" and "Cross My Broken Heart" followed, with "Cross My Broken Heart" reaching number 6 in the UK and number 7 in Ireland. Sinitta's debut album, Sinitta!, charted at number 34 in the UK and number 69 in Australia. Subsequent singles included "I Don't Believe In Miracles" at number 22 in the UK. In 1989, Sinitta worked on her second album, Wicked, in collaboration with PWL producers and German producer Ralf-René Maué. The lead single, a cover of Maxine Nightingale's "Right Back Where We Started From", reached number 6 in the UK and charted internationally, becoming her highest-charting single in Australia and New Zealand. The follow-up single "Love on a Mountain Top" reached number 20 in the UK. Other singles from this period included "Hitchin' a Ride" at number 20 and "Love and Affection" at number 62. In 1992, "Shame Shame Shame" peaked at number 28 in the UK. Sinitta released the EP The Supreme in 1993, which reached number 49, and in 1995, she released a cover album, Naughty Naughty, her only album released in Asia. She also contributed to the cast recording album for What a Feeling in 1997 and toured with Sonia and Luke Goss. In the same year, she recorded vocals for a cover of "You Can Do Magic" in a television stunt orchestrated by The Cook Report. Sinitta has appeared regularly on television. She assisted Simon Cowell on The X Factor in multiple series from 2004, helping select acts who went on to become finalists and winners. In 2007, she became a judge on Grease Is the Word, and in 2008 she joined Loose Women as a presenter. She also appeared on Celebrity Come Dine with Me, The Jump, and Celebrity Masterchef. In 2011, she participated in I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and assisted Louis Walsh on The X Factor.
