he was a Japanese indie rock band which formed in August 2003 and disbanded in November 2018 . Members: ** Vocals & Guitar: 芝田大樹 (Daiki "UNI" Shibata; formed Black onyx onyx with Kyosuke Kono (Sunmarine), Koichi Kawasaki (the band apart), Takafumi Miyake (Rega (band), mahol-hul) and others) ** Vocals & Bass: 重信貴俊 (Takatoshi Shigenobu; formed brute in forest with Seiji Sato (ex.ala) and others) ** Guitar & Chorus: 大谷武史 (Takeshi Otani; also active as a member of ARDBECK, formed in November 2012. (Left due to differences in musical style and direction); participated in songs produced by Kenta Matsukuma, such as BiS's "Fly"; joined FINAL FRASH as a support guitarist from 2016) ** Drums: 高橋勇樹 (Yuki Takahashi; in dustbox since 2015) Ex members: ** Drums: ピエール中野 (Pierre Nakano; now in 凛として時雨/Ling tosite sigure) ** Guitar: 和田一真 (Kazuma Wada) History: Formed in August 2003, the band made their debut in 2005 with the mini-album FURTHER SHORE on the K-PLAN label. Their first full-length album, in sequence, followed in 2006, and in 2008 they released their second album, hir large crimps. The band was formed by upperclassmen and underclassmen from the same school, stemming from interactions between the members' respective bands. In their early days, they showed influences from post-rock and US guitar rock, characterized by a refreshing sound with complex chord progressions and arrangements, interwoven guitars, and mellow melodies. The lyrics are in English, with songs featuring Shibada as the main vocalist, Shigenobu as the main vocalist, and songs with twin vocals. In 2009, the band became independent and moved to a new label, with subsequent releases issued through Mikami Beauty Salon. Their third full-length album, Three lines on Paper, was released in 2010. On December 19, 2011, guitarist Takeshi Otani left the band due to reaching the limits of his motivation. He was replaced by Kazuma Wada (formerly of Ruritateha and brute in forest). Wada participated in a live performance in Taiwan in 2012, but disappeared shortly before a scheduled self-produced event in June and subsequently left the band. Following his departure, Otani rejoined as guitarist. In 2013, the band celebrated their 10th anniversary with the simultaneous release of the single Birds and the anniversary album Re;takes. Their fourth full-length album, ZELKOVA, was released in 2014. The band ultimately disbanded after their performance at Shindaita FEVER on November 6, 2018. Musical style: Regarding the reason for their disbandment, they explained, "We came to the conclusion that it was necessary to reset he's activities in order for each of us to pursue the path in which we can shine the brightest." After their early days, the emphasis shifted from the post-rock approach that frequently used unusual ensembles such as irregular time signatures to a greater emphasis on vocals, resulting in many songs characterized by soaring melodies. They also began incorporating piano into their music with the single "Birds." The "he" in the band name comes from the Japanese word "he" (kare). Shigenobu, who didn't want the band name to evoke any particular song, was looking for an impersonal name and happened to come across "he" while flipping through a dictionary one day, leading to its selection. Shigenobu was a high school classmate of Pierre Nakano, the drummer of Ling Tosite Sigure. Before joining Ling Tosite Sigure, Pierre Nakano played drums in the band he, and he played drums on the demo CD. https://x.com/heweb_info Read more on Last.fm.
